Then we revisit Rachel’s full conversation with Lorena Gallo, formerly known as Lorena Bobbitt, about the story that became one of the most sensationalized cases of the 1990s.
Lorena explains what she says was happening behind closed doors before the incident that made her a household name, including years of domestic violence, sexual assault, fear, and the cycle of abuse. She also reflects on being reduced to a punchline by the media and why she believes the public never understood the full story.
Today, Lorena has turned that history into advocacy. Through the Lorena Gallo Foundation, she works to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and hopes to expand resources including legal support, mental-health services, and eventually emergency shelter.
